Az angol nyelvben nagyon gyakran előfordul, hogy nem direkten fogalmaznak, hanem körülírással, ezáltal udvariasabban és ’angolosabban’ hangzik minden. Figyeld meg az alábbi példákat!

1.Please tell me the time. HELYETT ANGOLOSABB: Could you tell me the time, please?

2.Are you free this evening? HELYETT ANGOLOSABB: I wondered if you were free this evening.

3.What time will you arrive? HELYETT ANGOLOSABB: What time are you planning to arrive?

4.How many days do you want to stay? HELYETT ANGOLOSABB: How many days did you intend to stay?

5.It would be better to paint it green. HELYETT ANGOLOSABB: Would it be better to paint it green?

6.Fill in this form, please. HELYETT ANGOLOSABB: I’m afraid you’ll need to fill in this form.

7.Would you like to come with us? HELYETT ANGOLOSABB: You wouldn’t like to come with us, by any chance?

8.Let’s stay at home. HELYETT ANGOLOSABB: What if we stayed at home for a change?

9. Let’s catch the earlier train. HELYETT ANGOLOSABB: I would say we’d do better to catch the earlier train. 

10.Hi! I’ve come over to introduce myself. My name’s Andy. HELYETT ANGOLOSABB: Hi! I thought I’d come over and introduce myself, if you don’t mind. My name’s Andy.

11.We must go. HELYETT ANGOLOSABB: I’m afraid we must be going.

12.Wait a minute! HELYETT ANGOLOSABB: I’ll have to ask you to wait a minute.

13.Do you want anything special? HELYETT ANGOLOSABB: Were you looking for anything special? (in a shop)

14. I hope you can lend me 10 pounds. HELYETT ANGOLOSABB: I was sort of hoping you could lend me 10 pounds.

15.Shall we borrow Jake’s car? HELYETT ANGOLOSABB: I was thinking, what about borrowing Jake’s car?
